I recently installed a second hard drive, partioned it and formatted it as instructed, but now my CD Rom isn't being detected.
When i boot up, the computer detects the CD Rom, but when i get into windows, it's not under 'My Computer'.
I can put a cd into the player and it will play it directly from the cd rom, but winamp or windows media player won't detect it......if i put in a software cd, it won't auto run and it won't show up in the 'my computer' window.

Any ideas?

if you need more info please ask.

Welcome :)

goto Device Manager and see if it is detected.
Choose to remove it then reboot. It should redetect it.

Hey,

thanks for the help, i've tried that, still didn't work.
i also brought home another cd-rom, in case it was just that the old one died, but it's doing the same thing, i removed it from device manager and rebooted like you said, still nothing.

any other ideas?

Thanks!
Andie

How are the drives on the cables and how are they jumpered?

not sure what you mean, i didn't do anything to the cables attached to the cd rom when i installed the new hard drive.......one set of cables is for both the hard drives and the other is completely seperate for the cd rom, does that help?

As craisin suggested, and I second that, select one master and other slave, usually you can find the drawings on the cd drive or on the manual if one was on the box

Sometimes running through the Add New Hardware wizard in Control Panel will force Windows to see the CD drive again.

If TweakUI is installed, check it to make sure the CD drive isn't marked as hidden.

Look in config.sys and see if there is a line specifying last drive (lastdrive =D). If so change it to E or higher.
