Fatal exception has occurred? Win95AC.vxd
Hi,
When I attempt to use my dialup modem to go online, the screen turns blue and I get this msg: "A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:C16A4947 in VXD Win95AC. " Is this a hard disk problem or is it the modem? What can I do, if anything, to fix this? The onset of the problem came suddenly. I didn't install anything (to my knowledge), all I did was delete some shortcuts from the desktop - shortcut to winfax, which I don't think should affect the modem. Thank you. ------ If it'll help, I uploaded my Belarc scan here. http://holyabdul.tripod.com/belarc.htm Last edited by chuckycheese; January 10th, 2005 at 05:49 PM. |

Howdy and welcome to CTH:
The problem has to do with your modem.. Have you upgraded it recently?? Murray |

No I have not.
The only thing differently I did before the problem arose was that I deleted some shortcuts that've been sitting on my desktop for WinFax or some program like that. Deleting shortcuts shouldn't have any effect... and if they were programs I would have received a system prompt/confirmation. It's possible perhaps some malicious program was downloaded without my knowledge... which reminds me, I think I'll run spyware progs and see if they work. I doubt it's related. I'll also try Zack's suggestion tonight. I guess perhaps my modem is broke? Any chance it's the hard drive? Doing a google search, it would appear that the problem is with the modem, though I don't see much of anything on the net regarding my particular error message. |

Is your modem protected by a surge protector? This problem pops up a lot up here in the mountains..

Just re-install the drivers for your modem and redo your DUN account..

I tried Zack's suggestion, it didn't work.
I don't have the win98 installation cd as the PC is old and it was a gift from a friend. Don't I need it to reinstall the driver? |

No.. if you know the make and model of the modem, then just download the drivers from the manufacturers website..
I would NOT redo the DUN though as you will need the windows cd for that.. BTW.. your "friend" should have given you the cd with the system as it would be totally illegal for them to put that operating system on another system !! Murray |
