View Full Version : Cannot erase DVD-RW

I burned a DVD-RW data disk with Nero and, for some unknown reason, if failed to complete...after writing 100% of the files, it couldn't do the leadout bit and failed.
I have since tried several times to erase the disk but Nero won't do it. I managed a quick erase but that left all the data on the disk and a full erase doesn't seem to be possible,
Is there any program that would erase the data completely?
Thanks

What is the error message?

Other programs will format it, but you may only be able to write using their software.

When I try to delete the disk I dont get an error message in Nero....on a "quick delete" it goes all the way, but on a "full delete" it stops after a couple of minutes and ejects the CD.
When I try to see the Cd via My Computer, I either get told it's empty but with no free space...or that there is no disk inserted.
When I burned the disk originally it failed at the last step...that is the lead out stage. It looks as of the data was left stuck on the disk after the quick erase. I've tried several times to do it.
Afrwe trying for some time, the disk refuses to eject and I have to switch off and let the machine cool down....then I switch on and it will eject the disk.
Hope this makes it clearer.
Thanks

Roxio is popular.
deepburner is free http://www.deepburner.com/

Nothing I have tried erases the disk.
I wonder if the media is at fault?
It is Phillips DVD+RW, 120 minute video.
I now have two coasters!
There is note on the cover that says:
"Before using this disk in a 2.4X disk drive, you need to check how to get
the requited firmware upgrade.Full details in enclosed booklet."
There is, of course, no enclosed booklet.
My burner is generic and handles both plus and minus varieties of DVD.
The problem started when Nero apparently wrote a lot of data files to disk, but failed to complete the final stage.

If it is just the one disk then it may be corrupted.

other things I could suggest would be to check for the latest updates of Nero and to see if you have the latest drive Firmware.
