what is the difference between burning and read/write? I would like to transfer my vhs movies to a cd format and I don't know if I would do it to a cd-rw or dvd-rw. Can you help? Trying to decide what I will need on a new computer. Thank You :D

Hi Pretty123,
To copy VHS to CD the least expensive method would be to
do it with a video capture card.
Video capture cards have VIDEO IN connections (rca port and
some come with s-video port as well). Ideally you want the
S-Video IN port. Some TV Tuner cards come with S-Video IN
and you can plug your VCR right into the TV Tuner Card, from
there you "capture" the video and save it in mpeg or avi format.
These "captures" can create extremely large files. You need
very large hard drives to hold the captured video.
Usually people want to edit the video and some powerful software
such as MainActor. WindowXP has Windows Movie Maker
included within it.
Check out this link (http://dazzle.com/products/dvc50.html) for more on capture methods. http://dazzle.com has other choices.
Since VHS tape is not digital I wouldn't use DVD. If you want
to play these videos in a DVD player then perhaps you might
want to look at DVD burners.
