Line Quality
I'm having problems connecting on my computer at home. I talked with my ISP tech support and they told me after having me try several things it sounded like we had poor line quality.
I believe my husband changed phone services about the same time we started having trouble. Is there anything I can do about this? Do I need to contact my phone company or is there something I can do myself to take care of the problem? |

If the problem started at the time you changed phone companies, then they are probably the problem. You could call them and see if they will run a test on the lines. Most likely they will say it is your Phone lines that is the problem though. Not to much you could do.
Do you hear any noise when your on the phone? |

No, there's no noise on the phone line. When I talked with our ISP, they had me connect the modem to our regular phone line and the problem was the same. I also talked with a computer friend of mine who gave me a number to try for prodigy and the response was the same - only connected at 19,000. We've thought about switching phone companies again to see what happens but we haven't done it yet. It's getting very frustrating.

Chances are unless your phone supplier is laying new lines to your house, any carrier is going to have the same problems. Poor line quality is poor line quality.
One thing you can try is disconnect all telephony devices (especially codless phones or answering machines) from the lines and only have the modem connected and try it. The difference a new telco carrier may have is the physical distance to the ISP. What sort of modem are you using?

I guess I thought that switching back to the old phone company might help because we weren't having problems while with them. I'm not sure of the brand of modem, it's a 56K - that's about all I know right now.

I have had some of the same problems. I was told by my provider that my modem software was an older version and this couse me to be kick off line. I checked and I have the latest. Then they said I most have bad Phone lines.I ran a line out to the company box just for the computer, no change.I was still kick off line.I have been on for over 2 hours tonight with no problems. Last night after 15min. I was kicked off line repeatedly.I have also been told that if a provider has more then 15 costumers per modem on the server that this can couse problems. It sounds like you have tryed different providers. I dont know how true this is. I'm trying to find out what my provider ratio is. If I find out I will let you know.
