I know this is a wide-open question but maybe someone can give me help. I have a HP ScanJet 2100C scanner and I can't find out way of turning off lamp once I am through scanning. Of course, I could pull the plug but am hoping there is a simpler solution. By the way, how long do those lamps last? I've already done basic search of Help, etc., but can't find means of off/on for scanner. For earlier (Plustek) scanner, the software had timer that could be set for off/on of lamp. Can't find such a thing for this HP. As I type this, the lamp went off after about 8-10 minutes so maybe that is answer. It simply shuts itself off after a set time. Oh, well, I'll post this anyway. ;)

Hiya arcee
Not a direct reply, but have you updated your software and drivers from HP (http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpscanjet221428_swen.html)?

Take a look at this HP page for your scanner (http://www.hp.com/cposupport/docindex/hpscanjet221428_solve.html). May find an answer there!

OK - Here is reply from HP Support. I guess this answers the question.

I understand that you need to know if your Scanjet 2100c lamp can be
turned off.
Please note that your scanner has the feature of idle mode due to which
the scanner will turn off after a period of 15 minutes of inactivity.
This is an automatic setting and you do need to make any adjustments

Hi again arcee:
Glad to hear your (sorta) heard back from them.
I'm surprised their answer wasn't to "unplug" it. :o ;)
Thanks for posting back to let us know.
