Has anyone used a Recovery Disk? I need to 'fix' an HP 6330 with one, and I've never used one before. I'll be doing it on the phone long-distance (!), so explicit directions/good tutorial links are needed. Thanks all! :)

Hi zipulrich
I don't know about HP but on my Compaq 5190
I just put in the recovery CD and it autoruns
and installs over the existing operating system.
and reformats the hard drive.
I do have to enter the serial number and key code
but every thing else is pretty much self explanitory.
Some versions of the Compaq 5190 recovery CD have
Three options:
FULL RESTORE returns comp. to its original preinstalled
software state and reformats the hard drive.
TYPICAL RESTORE reinstalls basic drivers and apps.
without reformating the hard drive.
CUSTOM RESTORE allows you to choose which drivers
and apps. to reinstall without reformating the drive.
Good Luck

Didn't look up that model, so I might be talking through my hat here. Is that the recovery disk that came with the system, or some other HP system? I recall awhile back seeing problems interchanging recovery disks (same model and everything). Seems some companies were i.d'ing each disk with each motherboard. Same-model RD's could not be interchanged. Don't recall if that was HP or some other company. Jus' checkin' the backdoor...
I read an article just the other day (don't recall how old it was) that HP was dropping RD's and putting a 4 gig "recovery partition" on their hard drives that is not accessible via Windows. Hmmmmm....
