Alright, I post a question asking how to do something and then how to undermind it, and so they close it, one person's lucky enough to get an answer in, but I don't understand it that well, so I repost it without asking how to undermind it, I just want to know how to set it and I asked if anyone could give more detail instead of saying "or something" and so they close that one, what the heck! I just want an answer to go with my question, why'd you close the second one! I don't understand the answer he gave to me in the first!

Lectric Wolf, I am going to try to explain this as simply as I can.
What you asked initially was how to password-protect your system immediately after POST in the same manner as your father had done and you then proceeded to ask how secure that would be (e.g. is it easily crackable and if so, how).

Theoran replied by advising you need to set a BIOS password.
I then replied with a hint that the BIOS password is easily circumvented by opening the case.
It was then made clear to you that as far as this subject is concerned, giving further detail would allow readers (not necessarily you) to gain information on how to crack someone else's BIOS password without their consent and the topics were closed to further posts.
I am sorry if you are unable to find the settings in the BIOS of your particular machine but as I mentioned, the answers we have given are as far down this road as we are willing to go.
Sorry if this is unhelpful. In this case we are going to err on the side of caution.

Just like with Me locking you thread in the Win/98 forum. The question you asked made it sound more like you want to get into a Passworded system. We cannot give you that information. Sorry if you dont understand, but that is the Rules. It is called cracking. It can and would be used in a bad way by many people....
If you had only asked how to Keep your brother off of the PC then we would gladly go into further details on how to help you set that up. But we cannot give you details on how to get around it.....

Smurfy,
I don't know if you and Dodge are on the exact page or anything, but what Dodge just wrote is exactly what I wanted to know, I just wanted to know how to put the password on in the first place, I only asked if it could be cracked so I would know how strong or falliable it is. It might have come off as though I wanted to know how to crack it, but no, I don't, I just wanted to know, as I said, how strong or falliable it is. I was just using my dad's computer as an example. I only posted it again, so it hopefully it could be answered with more detail, and with out asking how to undermine it, that's the reason I was pissed is because you closed the second one. I wanted more detail on the BIOS factor not opening the case. I think that there lies our problem.

Any password can be hacked, but it takes some knowing how. The average person wouldn't be able to hack too many. The BIOS password keeps anyone from using the computer at all, but can be hacked if ya know how. The Windows' password is easy to hack...for me anyway...but for many it wouldn't be possible. Passwords are like locks, they keep honest people honest.
