Renewing an IP Address

Please bear with me, because I'm not a computer geek. I have a ethernet network connection on one of my computer. I have the LAN connection enabled, but under the status of the LAN connection it keeps telling me that it has "Limited or no Connectivity". There is an option to "repair" the connection, but all that comes up is a message saying that it is trying to renew the IP address, and nothing ever happens, I get an error message. This began after I ran eTrust anti-virus scan and Spy-Bot Search & Destroy. Any ideas? I need help!!!!

Doesn't etrust have a built in firewall? If so, try disabling the firewall and see if that works. If that fixes it you will need to adjust the firewall to allow it to see whatever it is you want it to be able to see.
