Hey all

I am having major problems with my router. I have 3 Pcs in my home that all need the internet, however we cannot view certain website, one of these is Hotmail.com. When I try to view the site it times out. This also applies to connecting to MSN messenger. We are using AOL UK in the house and that uses a PPPoA connection, however I have read on the net there is problems with this and I should use PPPoE, this is not possible. Has anybody else come across this problem before with not being able to view certain sites?

Thanks all

Pete

This may sound dumb, but have you installed WeatherBug? I installed it once about a year ago and it restricted access to Hotmail.com, MSN.com, and Yahoo!. At first, I didn't believe that it was the problem, but finally I uninstalled it and problem solved! :dizzy:

No, Weatherbug is not on any of the 3 pc's. At first I thought it could of been a malfunction on the router itself but it lets me view the internet, well 50% of it...

I dont know what weather bug is anyway mate

Brown what brand router do you have there? Also have you checked the MTU settings? Sometimes these settings can restrict viewing of some websites. I personally set my MTU to 1400. Some say for a PPOE or dsl setting 1492 works better. I would give those both a try and see how it goes. If neither do the trick post back as we can work from there.

I have tried this change and see no difference. However, I am using PPPoA as it is AOL uk and that requires PPPoA usage. I have also tried logging into MSN messenger and it does not allow me in.

When I try to log into the sites that dont work through IE through the AOL browser 50% of them work. I can view the main screen of Hotmail.com but cannot get past the log in prompt as it just times it. It has also been kicking all 3 pcs off the internet occasionally.

HELP PLEASE!!! it could be the router and we are going to ask for a replacement to be sure...

Did you change the MTU setting on the router or on the PC or both?

Try changing the MTU on your PC also.
