right now i am set up using netgear hardware. and i need my wireless laptop to comunicate with my desktop, which is also wireless internet. they are both are cominicating witht he router and have internet. they are both running win 2000

welcome aboard.
I'd like to clarify what you are trying to do and then we should be able to help. It sounds like you have your wireless network up and working for two PCs and they both can successly access your internet connection. What you'd like to do now is share either folders or a printer between the PCs. Is this correct?
There are two steps to accomplisming this. The first is to get TCP/IP network connectivity between the PCs working and the second is to get the Windows networking working between the PCs.
You should have the first piece working. I'm going to have you check that and post back. Then when that is working we can configure what is needed to get the windows piece working.
First go to one of the PCs and run 'cmd/k ipconfig' . This will show you the IP address for that PC. Then go to the other PC and run 'cmd/k ping the_ip_address_of_the_other_pc'. This will tell us if the TCP/IP piece is working.
