I have a new Dell Dimension 2400 desktop with XP Pro. New Linksys USB network adpater won't work. Hardware is recognized but can't establish communication with Linksys wireless router. I have a wireless laptop that has communicated with the router trouble-free for many months. Tried returning adapter and buying another one through different channel. 2nd adapter had same problems. Dell phon support thinks it may be the OS.
Any suggestions? Any experience or trouble getting a USB wireless adapter to work with XP Pro?
Thanks for any help.

Hello:
On the computer you are having a hard time connecting with open up a browser and in the address bar type in 192.168.1.1 and hit enter. That should bring you to linksys set up page, do that and let me know if you can get there.

Thanks for anyone who responded to my original post. In case this helps you advise others, here is the resolution.
A friend who knows a lot more about computers than I do solved my problem in about 3 minutes on the phone. The salient question he asked was about MAC address filtering on my wireless router. I forgot that I enabled that several months ago when I set up my router. I went into the router and sure enough MAC address filtering was enabled. I entered the MAC address of the adapter, rebooted everything and the adapter worked like a charm.
The amazing thing is that in 4 hours over four phone calls with both Linksys and Dell, not one of these support professionals thought to ask me about MAC address filtering, even though we tried several other manipulations of the router settings. After that much time, I have become pretty familiar with wireless configurations, so I guess that is a plus.
Thanks so much!
