My son has an all PC network at his office. He uses a Desktop on the Network, and has a Dell Laptop he uses also, to bring work to clients, and works at home with it. When he plugs the Laptop into the Network, it brings the entire Network down.

When he plugs the Laptop into his Router at home, he loses the Internet on his home Desktop.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?
Could a bad network card in the Laptop do this?

Thanks

Hi Bob

That could be the problem, are you sure that he is connecting to the network jack? Many laptops also have a built-in modem, usually the jack is different but the cable for the modem will fit into the network jack. Confirm this with him.

Next it might pay to check his network settings, it is unlikely that these would bring a network down, rather I would expect that he would just be unable to network the machine if the settings are wrong. But check them anyway and post what you find here if unsure. BF
