I have a computer that does not read/understand the network commands such as Ping and ipconfig. When run the cmd command and get to the DOS prompt I type one of the above commands but nothing happend. The curser just goes to the next line which is blank

Is there a network card that's configured correctly? With good drivers?

Check to make sure the commands have access to the network.
Do this via your Firewall settings

What version of window?
try "netsh interface show interface".
You can also try downloading the netdiag tool from M$.

Start by running netdiag /test:ndis
