I have this old laptop that came with WinXP pre installed. I'm trying to perform a clean install and replace it with Win98.
First though I need to set up the boot/start-up disk and for that I need to know my CD-ROM driver.
I checked both the c:\config.sys and c:\autoexec.bat files but they were empty (0 KB). After looking around in the control panel under 'Driver Info' I came up with this:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\imapi.sys
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\redbooks.sys
C:\WINDOWS\System32\storprop.dll
I altered the config.sys file on the boot disk as follows but it didn't work:
[CD]
device=C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys /D:MSCD001
device=himem.sys /testmem:off
etc.
The CD-ROM drive is called CRD-S311, which I think was made by Sanyo, I tried contacting them but they didn't have a clue what a driver was. I've searched everywhere for it but no luck. I came across this (http://developer.novell.com/yes/35325.htm) page which didn't make much sense to me.
Anybody know where I could find the driver, or if I could perhaps proceed with the clean install without needing it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
