Dell latitude laptop with win2000 froze up and ctrl/alt/del didn't work so I held down power until it shut down...when I tried to restart it comes up with "disc error". I tried resetting the defaults in setup but to no avail. Any suggestions!!!

Is the hard dick being detected by the BIOS or is that where you see the "disk error" message?
If you can boot from CD, boot with the W2K cd and run a chkdsk from the recovery console.
Otherwise...
Remove Hard drive.
Boot up once.
Put hard drive back
Boot up again.
No joy?
Replace Hard drive.
Hardware fails sometimes :(
