Hello,
I'm new to this Forum and had a quick question. I've been having problems lately when I want to save apicture off the Internet I left click it choose "save as" and then it only gives me the option to save it as a .art file or a .bmp file. I save it, but when I try to look at it on my computer it is blank? When I select the picture it shows me a preview of it just fine. I am running Windows 2000 using AOL 9.0 (I also tried using IE I had the same problem) I was also trying to open the pictures with Acdsee.
Any ideas as to what might be my problem? I'm clueless as to what it might be.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Open one (1 only) Internet Explorer, go to the menu...
Tools
Internet Options...
Advanced(tab)
put a checkmark here Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed
http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/images/code/Empty_Temporary_Internet_Files.jpg
click OK and close that 1 Internet Explorer.
The contents of the temporary Internet files folder will begin to delete. It will take some time and you'll hear/see you
hard drive spin away while the process continues, when you see your hard drive light stop and hear your drive stop
spinning, then you should be able to download pictures in the format they really are.

if it all pictures see above, if some pictures on certain sites then it could be a security thing to keep people from stealing pictures.
The pictures you already have just rename to their proper extension for viewing.

AOL. sorry I can't help you.
I do suggest you call your phone company or cable company for Internet access and if you switch...
...format your hard drive and reinstall your operating system.

in AOL preferences there should be an option to compress images.
you want to disable that.

Well I disabled the compression option and still no luck. Although I did use open with and chose IE and the picture opened. It still wouldn't let me change the format from a .bmp file to a .jpeg file. It won't open using any other imaging software (paint, microsoft imaging, acdsee) It comes up saying format not supported or invalid image.
Maybe this is a protected picture and i'm not supposed to be saving it? I'll try some other pictures and see what happens.
Thanks for the help.

Is it only one image that you are having this problem with?

No it's working now. I had to clear out my temporary internet files through my AOL using the settings tab. I was able then to download as a jpeg file.
Thanks everyone for all your help!
