Hello, recently I reset the RAM in my moms old computer, and now when I go to start it up, it gets to the Login screen, but after I enter in the Password all that comes up is my mothers old desktop. It seems as if the applications aren't even loading. When I press ctrl alt delete, all I get is an empty task manager. Any suggestions on what I should do to fix this problem? I don't want to reformat because there are some files I really need that is still on that HDD.

hi did you try to put it in safe mode? if you tell me what computer you have I can tell you what key to hit. if you have a compaq the key is the f8 key turn the computer off then back on hit the f8 key as soon you turn on the computer. when you get in to safe mode do a scandisk if that does not work then you can do a restore. if they do not work or if they do please let me know.
thank
you

Om3ga, what do you mean by 'reset' the RAM? Physically took it out and put it in again? A possibility is a problem with a RAM module.
BTW, all your 'stuff' is still on the HD. If all else fails, you can move the drive to another computer and copy the files from it. But first, let's try to get your mom's computer fixed.
