usually it means your computer is not turned on. When you turn on the power are you getting any lights whatsoever on the case or keyboard? Any sounds or beeps?

Yes when it powered up all the lights came on,maybe I should try it again and see what happens.

I know the lights came on the computer showing the power was on,and the fan came on.

Maybe I was a little too anxious, when powering it up.

Welcome, nukem1st. :)

Be sure that you have the monitor plugged into the wall with the power cable as well as plugged into the back of the computer with the signal cable.

Listen for any beep sequences when starting up, and report them here please.

The problem might be your video card, in which case, there should be a beep pattern when you turn the power on.

try opening the case and make sure your video card and ram is seated properly

Well I tried it again,I got all kinds of lights normal keyboard lights and beeps on the computer, but nothing came up on the screen this time.
I'm not a computer wiz,but I think it's missing something important.But that's just me.Like I say I ain't no expert.

I don't know,I'm about ready to drop kick it.

Describe the beeps to us please. There is likely a power suppy or video card issue at fault here.

I really can't explain the beeps,but it beeps like 3 times,maybe 4,
But there is something missing on the back I don't know for sure what it is,but there is an opening 3 holes together or real close together in a row then it looks like there should be a plug in of some sort right beside it.

I really do appreciate all you help, maybe I can get it figured out with you help.

nukem1st, a little history on this PC would be nice.

Have you ever seen it working?

The monitor should have 2 cables coming out of it. One is your AC Power which must be plugged in or you wouldn't be seeing the message.
The other is the VGA cable which needs to be connected to the VGA-Out on the back of the PC.

This cord from monitor:

into the blue plug on the back of PC:

You may see a choice of two plugs...

in which case pick the one in the expansion slots.

OK I got the problem fixed,I guess the componets were lose,so now I have a computer working.

Now I have another problem.

How do I get it so that I can plug in a phone line to use the internet?

It has the cable type plug in but no phone jacks.

How do I fix this?

By "Cable type" I am going to assume you mean a network port.
Entirely likely that the PC has no modem.
In which case you have two options, buy an internal PCI modem or an external serial or USB modem (I will always recomend external serial but they are more expensive).

Please keep in mind that I am very ignorant about computer and their parts.

But if you can explain to me what all I will need to do to install a modem so I can hook a phone line so that I can get on the net.

I don't even no what kind of computer this is all I know it has N-W on the front.

What kind etc.etc.

I need another bottle of Advil:eek:

Sorry about that.
To connect to the internet via a phone line with dial-up internet provider, you need a modem.

See the image attached:
Number 6 is a serial port - You can buy external modems that just plug into there, easy.
Number 9 are USB ports - Cheaper external modems plug into there, still easy.
Number 5 are Internal expansion slots - Cheapest Internal modems go here. Means you have to open up the case to install the modem.
Number 10 is a network (LAN) port. Dial-up modems cannot use this.

If you are connecting via an ADSL (broadband) ISP via your phone line, you still need a modem which can be internal or Exterbal which will connect to either the USB port or the LAN (network) port.

Thank you so much for all your help,I finally found out that I did need a modem, went to Office Max and purchased one, came home cracked the case installed it,installed the program, and now I have a computer now thanks to all of you.

I know now where I need to go for computer direction.

But I do need to learn what makes computers tick, and the only way you can do that is do things yourself and hope to God I don't mess it up.

Thank you again

Great.
I agree, the best way to learn is to have an expendable "guinea pig" system you can mess around with and learn by getting your hands "dirty".

Actually I got this computer for our daughter, she likes to chat with her school buddies on those messenger places, and it ties up my computer.
So I got an inexpensive and now she's enjoyimg it.

I should have went to a trade school to learn this stuff being that computers play a big role in just about everybodies life.I just know enough to be dangerous, and how to buy stuff in eBay.

But this town is so lame I don't know if it would be worth it or not.Plus my age would sorta be a hinderence too.I don't know if I should go for it or not.

Thank you again for your help.
