I have problem running my infrared on my laptop-Windows 98.It worked a few months ago, but now its not working. I redownloaded the driver and everything for it, but still no luck. When I click the Infrared Recipient it says check the control panel to make sure its enabled. When I try to click infrared in the control panel, I get a message about unable to install or load Infrared.dll. I tried downloading the DLL and extracting it to the correct folder, still nothing
PLease help...

Sinse you have the driver, why don't you uninstall it complet3ely and make sure its removed from device manager and then reboot and reload it making sure it uses the new driver.

I don't know. Maybe start looking at stuff in the device manager for address conflicts. How is the bios battery? Have you checked bios to see if it's still turned on. I wonder if the default setting is "disabled". Just guessing!

Actually it does matter, what model of cell phone? Have you tried talking to your cell phone provider? If so, what did they say?

How to enter bios depends on the computer. Most are entered by pressing the Delete key during the early part of boot. Some are entered by doing the same with F1 or F2. There are several other methods. Once there, navigate around until you see the Infrared section.

Its a new panasonic phone, but i dont it has to do with the phone, because my brother got his working on his laptop and he transfer files back a forth now. On mine, Its just this message about how it is not installed properly or configured right. Ill try checking the bios.

I entered the Bios and played around with the infrared options. Enabled it and fiddled around with the settings a few times. Theres like IrDA, Ask-IR, and FIR and all these different settings like interrupt number and stuff, i dont anything about that stuff. Anything else you can suggest?

If it wasn't enabled previously and you have now enabled it, that would be my best guess. I would not mess with the interrupt etc unless in device manager it shows a conflict with something else. It it does and you do change the interrupt, you will probably have to delete it from device manager and reinstall it. I'm sorry, but I really don't have any other suggestions.
