The clock on my 5-year old HP Pavillion loses about one hour in every twenty-four. Any suggestions other than getting a new computer? (Thanks.)

You could try replacing the CMOS battery.
This is a small battery (watch type battery) on the motherboard that gives power to the BIOS chip.
