I just formatted my disk to put everything back to factory condition. I didnt like a lot of the applications that wre on there from the factory so i uninstalled them. Now when i restart i get this screen (bofore the OS loads) that tells me "that a file that the registry is asking for is no longer there....if u deleted the file on purpose try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file or delete it using the uninstall program..... C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM/VSHINIT.vxd"............could that be my factory McAfee virus scan? Any way to completley remove it?

It is a leftover from McAfee. There are extensive instructions for complete removal of McAfee on this McAfee Help page (http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/faq.asp?frames=1&docid=68717&CategoryId=245&chat=).
Since you've already uninstalled it, that page should guide you through the removal of all the remnants. It it doesn't remove the error message, you might consider reinstalling McAfee (if your restore disk offers that option) and start from the beginning, following those instructions.

Thanks for the reply. I kinda figured it was something to do with that, so i just went into my registry and did a search for anything with that name and deleted them. Its working fine now.

one thing you may consider doing but not necessary is to use a registry cleaner to clean your registry of any other leftover junk. I would suggest ace utilities but there are several other good ones. You can check them out at download.com and read reviews of most.

I have the VCOM fix-it utility cd and it has a registry cleaner, registry fixer, and registry defragmenter on there. Should it remove any entries in there after I have uninstalled them from add/remove programs?

I am not familiar with that utility but there are always leftover junk whenever you uninstall something. I use a registry cleaner whenever I uninstall anything.
