How do I add a new drive in Windows Me?

Hi Windows Me users!

I lost the CD-ROM drive, which was the E: drive, when I disconnected the CD-ROM from the motherboard. It doesn't appear anymore in 'My Computer'. How do I add a drive back so that my CD-ROM works again.

Cheers.

Howdy:

Gotta ask, but did you connect it properly again making sure the #1 pin lined up with the red stripe on the cable ??

Murray: Are you asking if this problem is a power issue?

Hi Murray,

Sorry for the delay in replying - I had to go through the process of registering as a new member (getting a password through my e-mail, etc.)

To answer you question, the power connector can only be attached the correct way because of the structure of both the power plug and the connection.

This computer is six years old, so it doesn't have a #1 pin number, as the newer computers do.

Oh yes it does have a pin1.. they all do.. and,
I wasn't referring to the power connector but to the IDE cable (that is what has the pin1 requirement)..

Invisable CDROM drive...

Windows should just be able to find it once you have plugged the cable back in. I'm assuming that you unplugged and plugged the cable back in while the computer was turned off.

If it still cannot find it check Device Manger (right click MY COMPUTER, then left click PROPERTIES, then DEVICE MANAGER) and see if the drive was DISABLED (if so re-enable it). If it is not in DEVICE MANAGER either go into the CONTROL PANEL and run ADD NEW HARDWARE and see if it can find it.
