Please could you help - I think I've messed up my mums computer..
We downloaded AVG Antivirus 7 from http://www.nethomehelp.co.uk
AVG identified and 'healed' about 20 trojans and viruses
I then deleted all 15mb of files from c:\windows\temporary internet\ (including all the IE5 folders), and then everything from c:\windows\temp
We then downloaded Kerio 4 from http://www.nethomehelp.co.uk (http://www.nethomehelp.co.uk/), which told us to reboot the system..we switched off, switched on, windows 98 started loading, all the toolbars and icons came up, it seemed like it finished its loading, but then the PC froze..

we then tried switching off/switch off a few times but no change..
did i do something incredibly stupid by deleting those IE5 files?
any direction would be greatly appreciated

It may be that both AVG and Kerio are trying to load at startup and neither one is getting it done.

Boot into Safe Mode* and disable one or the other from loading on startup. If you can't disable either from within the program itself, use msconfig.**

It's not a bad idea to have two, up-to-date antivirus programs installed in case you need a second opinion about a suspected virud infections but only one should be configured to load at startup/run in the background.

*Boot into Safe Mode: Repeatedly press and release the F8 key during boot. That should get you to the boot menu where you can choose Safe Mode.

**To use msconfig: Go to Start>Run, type "msconfig" (without the quotes), click OK. Go to the Startup tab and uncheck the appropriate entries, click OK. When you reboot, you will get a warning window about starting in selective mode. You have selected things not to load on startup so you do want to start in selective mode so click the box in the lower corner telling it not to show you that message again and click OK or Yes (whichever the button says).

(and my mum is now smiling)
On this side of the pond, we say Mother, Mom, Mommy, but I always smile, respectively, the way you guys say it, among other things.
Glad everthing is in order and your 'mum' is smiling again.
