Hi, i really really need help! if its gonna take reformatting at the end then i will but my dad cant know lol, thats why i'd rather have this fixed without reformatting.

ok, i last night i started up my laptop, i was installing norton anti virus 2003 onto it and when the installation hit to something like updating your system it froze on me, so i went to task manager(i have windows 2000 NT btw) and closed it from there but my whole laptop froze so i had to manually restart it with the button and next i know, after it says loading your personal settings, applying etc.... it goes on the desktop shows the bottom bar(where start is etc) and then the whole screen goes black with a dark blue box saying some number then UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_TRAP
Beginning dump of physical memory.
Completed Dump of physical memory. Please contact an Administrator or Technical Support.

and thats what it does and i cant get on my desktop, only in safe mode.

Welcome :)

Have you tried uninstalling Norton from Safemode?

I am in safe mode right now and it says.....

Preparing to Install... with the Windows Installer text at top where the blue bar is..... then that disappears and says The Windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personell for assistance.

You may have to run a Repair install of the OS.

Ok, first a tongue lashing and then the fix...

For one, Norton 2003 is not going to be able to download updates...Norton antivirus only lasts
one year. I don't know why you'd be installing a defunct antivirus in the first place.

Second, your Mom is watching out for your Dad and she has every right to get on your case
because that is not your computer it's your Dad's. I'm sure your Dad let's you use it but installing
programs on it is taking a risk at rendering the computer useless because one never knows
what program is junk and pooches a perfectly fine computer...junk like anything from Symantec (Norton).

The fix...
Norton altered the bitmap on the hard drive.
In Safe Mode put the Windows 2000 Pro CD in the drive and then...
Start
Run...
type sfc /scannow
when that is finished reboot to the Windows 2000 Pro CD and enter the Recovery Console and type chkdsk /r
when that is finished type fixboot and when that is done type fixmbr
