Mozilla Firefox will not download...
AMD Athlon XP 1800
384 megs ram 32meg video card Windows Me 40gig HD One of my computers is having a problem with Firefox, the person using it was downloading a file when we had a power outage shutting the computer down (I was not aware at the time that the UPS had internally died and would no longer keep the computer running). This corrupted TCP/IP to the point where this computer would only download at around 13k while the rest of the computers on the network were flying along at over 300k during downloading files. TCP/IP was so badly corrupted that after doing the "simple" reinstall not even Internet explorer could surf but pinging still worked. TCP/IP, Winsocks, etc. had to be manually removed from the registry, etc. etc. etc. Long story short, I.E. and Mozilla can both surf and download files like they are supposed to but if I try to download any files with Mozilla Firefox it gets to the point where you click SAVE after choosing a file name then the browser completely locks up and has to be ENDTASKED to get Windows back. I have emptied the C:\Windows\Temp\ folder, dumped temp Internet files and all of the cookies, reinstalled Firefox with a newly downloaded installation file but the problem still exists. Any suggestions besides reinstalling Windows?

Have you tried changing the Firefox download folder from the preferences?

This is from the "whatever it may be worth" department. I used Firefox almost exclusively. I say "almost" because of the download problem. While I haven't had the exact underlying problem that the OP stated, I rarely download much of anything using Firefox. Why? Because it just either will not download at all or it goes horribly slow. I have a cable connection and with IE I can download at 300k+ but to try and download with Firefox (to the same folder as IE), it downloads as if I were on a 28K dialup.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I have already tried all those tweaks and they made no difference at all.
![]() Actually, my download speeds with Firefox are not set in stone, so to speak. Most of the time, they are really slow, but once in a great while, they go as fast or faster than IE. There really doesn't seem to be any particular rhyme nor reason to it. Last edited by cheezit; February 22nd, 2005 at 08:50 PM. |

Hello,
Why are you interested so much in firefox's download manager. There are many free download manager which are actually free like Free Download Manager. If you still want to stick to firefox, then I think it's some configuration problem And I would suggest 1>Backup your firefox profiles( and anything else) 2>Completely uninstall firefox 3>Reinstall firefox 4>relpace your firefox profile without configuration file. |
