Well, I've just noticed this after what must have been at least a day or so. I usually use my computer primarily for internet, so I don't go traipsing around in the system folders and documents unless I'm trying to fix something. All the programmes I need I have shortcuts on the windows bar for. But today I needed to get a picture from Documents. One click to the desktop icon got an error message:
"explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created."
Uh huh... So I clicked just about every other icon and got the same response. After awhile I even had to start restoring my active desktop every time I tried to look in a folder.

Being at least a mite computer-savvy I tried using run. Same error. Then find/search. Same. Windows 2000 Help works, but I didn't think that would provide much in the way of assistance. But still I clicked around in it until I got bored. Then I managed to get to and run Ad-Aware and SpyBot through the startbar. They found a couple things but nothing really helpful. Nothing changed.

So... My computer is broken, but I can't get into the program files or control panel to fix it. Or even try and get some semblance of the actual problem. My programmes are limited to what's in the startbar, and I can't save things from the internet because that involves choosing the location with explorer. Damn.

Well, thanks very much if you offer help. :) Thou art my saviour.

OS: Windows 2000 Pro
Browser: Firefox and/or Netscape

EDIT-
I got the control panel and Documents to expand in the startbar... Dosen't actually help much besides allowing me to get to the picture I wanted in the first place. :P

Hi basser, you should have some mobility using Iexplore.exe. Open Task Manager (CAD) and go to Task > New and type iexplore.exe and OK.

When IE opens, click on View > Explorer Bar > Folders and you should now be able to navigate around. If you can get hold of a copy of Explorer.exe for your version of Windows including Service packs (very important), copy it to a folder on your Desktop and boot into Safe Mode. You will now be able to delete the corrupted Explorer and copy the fresh version across to C:WINNT.
