I have had a reasonably successful ands popular web site that is hosted by Freeserve (now Wanadoo).

Decibel Dungeon (http://www.decdun.fsnet.co.uk)

This weekend, I tired to update the site as usual but couldn't log in. After a long search around the Wanadoo site, I found something to the effect that sites on the Freeserve webspace will not be supported after the end of 2004. Suffice to say that despite all my efforts, I am unable to update the site at all.

I am currently with Tiscali and have decided to put the site on the webspace that I have with them. I have now uploaded all the files but wnat I want to know is if I have to submit the site to the search engines again? For the last few years, my site has come very high in the Google rankings and I would obviously like to keep it there!

It's also a shane that I cannot put some kind of forwarding message on the existing site!

Unfortunately your site will drop in Googles rankings. As far as finding it in the searches, I am guessing you will need a new url since it looks like you you are not using a domain name. If this is the case, all of your regular visitors will have to find you again - which may not be easy.

To bad you did not have a forum or mailing list at the site. Also I would suggest getting a domain name so that no matter where your site is host, the url will stay the same and you will not lose your regular visitors.

Thanks for the speedy reply Dan.

I am on a very tight budget due to being unwaged for 18 years so obvously have to do everything on the cheap.

So what would a domain name cost, and would I have to pay for hosting, or could I stay with Tiscali?. I'm not quite sure how it would work? :dizzy:

you can stay with tiscali and just use a domain provider that support cloaking

alternativy you can get low cost webhosting with webmania

I use them (im 17, so dont have masses of money to throw around), http://www.web-mania.com

It depends where you get the domain name. I would suggest using a service like godaddy.com to purchase the domain name. It will run about nine dollars a year and you can cloak the url.
