Download this file
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc...ortcut_fix.zip

Open the Zip file by clicking/double clicking it then open the .reg file inside and follow the prompts.

Hi,
Download and install X-Setup
http://www.x-setup.net/

When installed open the program and choose Classic mode.

Navigate through to Internet>Internet Explorer>URL Handling.

Check the entries under
Single Word URL Templates (www - http://)
and
URL Protocol Prefixes list (www.%s.com)

sometimes things just get corrupted, although usually it is sometype of spyware or virus that does it.
