Hi,
I'm haven't found out how to enter MS-DOS in Windows Me so that I can format the C: drive before re-installing Windows Me.
I tried the Windows Help instructions that read that I first select 'Shutdown and Restart' and then I either hold down the [Ctrl] key, or the [F8] key before shuting down; but neither of these worked.
Any advice?
Thanks.

Hello
Pop in a bootdisk, then start up your computer and you can do a format that way.

hi
be sure that the floppy drive must set first to boot in the bios then
put the bootdisk and then format the drive!
cheers!

Hi,
Dispite the "Help" instructions (that are not any help), WinMe does not have a way to boot into DOS. The closest thing you can get to it is clicking the START button, then click RUN, then type in COMMAND, then click OK (to get out of it type EXIT then hit [ENTER]).
I'm not sure why Microsoft left out a way to boot to DOS, maybe they didn't want the operating system to be compromised by people fiddling with it while in DOS mode, maybe it was how it handled its memory, who knows.
As was previously mentioned... Use your WinMe boot floopy to get to DOS, then type "FORMAT C:" (without the quotes). Unlike previous editions of Windows the /S of the command "FORMAT/S C:" no longer works and it will tell you so.
Just format it, then make your way to what ever the drive letter is that it assigned to your CDROM drive then type SETUP.EXE and hit [ENTER]. The installation will take care of making sure that the hard drive is bootable.
Good luck!
