Hey, I've got a question. Can anyone tell me how to setup passwords on my folders? I was thinking maybe this would be possible with a hard-drive partition, but I know nothing of such things :( I was just wondering whether if it's at all possible to accomplish without using shareware programs that go off in 30-days.

This is largely to keep my things private from other people that access the computer. (Dont worry its not anything inappropriate). Just some blantently illegal content such as pirated movies and games that my parents probably wouldn't aprrove of. Damn that stupid "downloading movies is pirating" add!!!! :disgust:

Anyway, anyhelp would be appreciated..

Hi sonelliot

What has been suggested to you would prevent access to the whole computer, I don't think that is what you were looking for.

At age 16, if that is correct, I presume that it is a computer that is owned by your parents, that you have access to. Am I correct?

If so I guess what you want is an area that you can log into that your parents can't. If the operating system is WinXP you can set up accounts on it so that you can have one for yourself, however unless you are the administrator you are not going to be able to prevent access by someone with the administrator password.

More importantly, if you do have things on the computer that are illegal, it might be an idea to take a bit of notice of your parents wishes, as it won't only be you, but them also who are in trouble with the law, when you are caught.

I might sound like an old fogie here but I teach IT and had one of my classes interrupted last week as the police arrived to arrest one of my students for doing just this. His parents now also have a big please explain. So far I've not been drawn into it, but as his IT teacher, I don't doubt I will be asked the odd question from both the police and my employer. BF

Yes I've heard stories of various people that have been busted for having illegal content on their computers. I've only really downloaded a few movies from limewire that have been filmed from the cinamas, (shrek 2, spiderman among them) but I suppose that is illegal enough to get me in trouble. That whole issue with lokitorrent has me on edge. Well I'll probably just delete the stuff and get back to using the comp to download music, play games and other things of that sort. Thanks for your advice it was very appreciated.

Sorry that is all I will do for you since you admitted you have illegal stuff on your computer your parents don't approve of. I may have violated the tos of this forum by giving you that much.
