hello while trouble shooting some problems on my pc, I was advised many times to go into safe mode to do some of the fixes...well for some time now( over a year) when ever i go into safe mode the mouse blinks most of the time while the desk tops is opening and right away the help-support page launches....and when in HS the mouse is unusable, and the only way I can get out is to CTRL ALT DEL 2 times.....IF... thats a big IF, I am lucky there is this super small window of time that if I dont touch the mouse up to that point...when that time comes I move the mouse down to the bottom of the screen then the help-support launches and I can then move the mouse up and close it.....The mouse blinks with the hour glass on and off as the desk top comes up and right before the HS laucnhes and there is no hourglass next to the mouse I have found that one out of 20 tries I can move the mouse down screen.......but it is like a half second window....and it is very hard to nail down....I found it out by accident.......sooo what is locking up the mouse...for (1) and for (2) why is help-support launching itself right away?.......thanks...bob

the computer is a compact and the mouse has a round connector that is color coded ...I believe the USB coonections are flat rectangles and they have a symbol next to the opening that looks like a fish spear......I have four USB ports but the mouse doesnt connect in any of them......bob

You don't have mouse function in safe mode with ME.. you need to use the arrow keys and enter.

your mouse is a PS/2 mouse, is it optical or mouseball, check connections, check to make sure its not dirty.

do you have any drivers for the mouse installed?

if you must, use the keyboard, navigate your way through windows, download a mouse.com file and save it to c:\

edit your autoexec.bat

so that it includes mouse.com
(this gives you a dos mouse for some programs)

ex of autoexec.bat
***********
$p$g
del *.* c:\windows\temp
mouse.com

now the HS shows up probably because it was the last thing opened before you shut down and it reopens when windows restarts (i've seen that), and/or its setup that way through your startup menu, or the registry (no touch unless experienced)

I have the same problem with my mouse in safe mode. How do you navigate to system restore useing the keyboard. Trouble started when my friend tried to install a downloaded anti-virus programm without first disableing McAfee. Windows Me only boots to safe mode w/help safe mode troubleshooter displayed. Thanks for any help.

I have used the mouse plenty of times in safe mode.....I did mention that if i time it right I can get the mouse to work, but 95% of the time i cant....I used to be able to go into safe mode and do the tasks I needed to do.. this mouse locking up and the help-support launching is a recent thing.....I selected in normal operatio that the mouse cursercould be moved using the numerical keypad arows.. and it works when not in safe mode but not in safe mode.....I will try to clean the mouse and firm up the connections....but i doubt that will help since the mouse works perfectly in normal operation...ie (NOT safe mode)....bob
