 HI,

A friend of mine sent me an email on directions she was told to do to speed up her system. She wanted to know if this was a safe and good thing to follow.

I have never heard of this one before so felt it best to check with you all before I told her yes or no.

Thanks for your advise here is the c n p from her email:

"""Try this, it should be done regularly if you use a lot of internet sites as the temp files will build up in the harddrive fast.

Go to START
click on RUN
make sure this is in the field %temp%
click ENTER
click EDIT
click SELECT ALL
File - DELETE - click enter

If you have a ton of these que temp files (everyone's system creates them as you open files/sites/etc), it will take a while for them to be deleted. Then after it's done, empty your recycle bin too."""

Howdy:

That is just your temp folder and can be accessed just as easily through Windows Explorer..

I dump the contents of that folder regularly !!

this reminds me of the self-inflicted email virus

type CMD in command line
type deltree *.* [enter]
hit y [enter]

ANYONE who is unfamiliar with their PC should NOT do anything an email suggests unless you know exactly what the end result will be.

Ouch!!!!

Hope no one tries that last one. It will cause some serious damage.

Just to clear things up the %temp% variable opens the Windows System Temporary Files folder.
You can find this via System Properties>Advanced>Environment Variables

Using Start>Run> can be replaces by opening My Computer or Windows Explorer.

Probably should be removed from the thread, just in case someone misreads and thinks it's some sort of fix. Although, if they did, I can't say I wouldn't laugh. :D
