When I run Live Update I get two errors. The first is when the Common Client is being updated. The details for this error are as follows:
Windows XP 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2
Common Client Core 103.0.2

The second is Norton Antivirus 2005 Update (English). The details for this error is as follows:
Windows XP 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2
NAVNT 11.0.2

The errors the final screen displays are
Symantec Security Software Update (LU1806)
Symantec Common Client (LU1812)

Norton Antivirus (LU1806)
Norton Antivirus 2005 Update (English). (LU1812)

I have spent 3 hrs on the phone with Symantec and no result below is a summary of what occured.

The following were uninstallled via the add/remmove program utility of the Control Panel. Norton Antivirus, & Live Update (Live Reg disappeared after the removal of NAV 2005.

The following Folders/Files on the hard drive were completely removed. C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec was deleted.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec was deleted
C:\Program Files\Norton Antivirus was deleted

The Symantec Folder under Local Machine\Software\Symantec was renamed

Norton was reinstalled and the same problem occured again.

(Please note the Symantec rep finally told me he could do any more is there anyone out there who knows how to resolve this?)

Thanks
Roger

They can't tell you that. If a level one tech can't resolve a problem your to be moved to level two.
Back to Symantec. you've paid for this software and your entitled to their support to the point
of either being resolved or your money refunded.

Just to let you know you are not alone. I have exactly the same problem with Nortons Updates as you. I have been trying to resolve it for the last 6 weeks after upgrading from Nortons System Works 2002 to Nortons System Works 2005. I have been advised by Symantec Technical Support to work through various support pages - usually resulting in uninstalling and reinstalling LiveUpdate and Nortons System Works. I have lost count of how many times I have done this but it still hasn't worked. If anyone has a solution I would much appreciate it.

I had the same prob. but all u have to do is change HEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/filesystem
and change NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation in the registry to 0 unisntall Norton and run the Updates everything should work fine.

I removed Norton 2005 AV when the subscription ran out. I now run Titanium 2006 made by Panda software. It works great.

I will not purchase a NAV product again.

Then computer life may possibly be a bit easier from now on. ;)

I had a similar problem after installing Norton Antivirus 2007. I
still had some remnants left over from my previous version.

What I did to fix it:

Ran the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall Norton Antivirus
Re-booted in safe mode
Deleted Symantec directory under Documents and Settings
Deleted Symantec Shared directory under Program Files\Common Files
Ran the Issues tool within CCleaner several times to clear out obsolete
registry entries
Re-booted
Re-installed Norton Antivirus 2007

I noticed that. I posted my response in case anyone else has this issue. I'd searched all over the web and didn't see my solution anywhere.
