I have a fairly new Sony computer and am trying to see what is taking up all my memory there is a file out there called hpcmerr that takes up 3 kb, when I try to move it to the recycle bin I get a message that says that I can not delete it because it is being used by another person or program which is weird because it says it is a text file...it does not appear to be attached to any folder just tacked on to the end of my c drive. Appreciate any help:dizzy:

The only thing I could find indicates it could be the output from some code being run by another program or script. Make a copy of it and open the copy in notepad and see if it indicates what is generating it. I would wonder! If that doesn't shed any light, I think I would run the standard virus checks and syp/malware scanners and post a HJT log in the cyber safety forum per the instructions listed there on stickies.

Go into your msconfig and look for entries in start up that seem to relate to CHPCompMgrService and uncheck them.

:dizzy: I really didn't see any files that seemed to relate, here is another question, my D drive has 91.8 GB virtually unused, my C drive has only a capacity of 13.9 GB, doesn't this seem backwards?

Not if thats how you like it. Just install large programs to thr D drive, and do your archiving there. There are actually advntages to doing it that way.
