Anyone have any advise on scanning color negatives. I have an Epson Perfection 1650 scanner. I tried to scan but it doesn't recognize the document as a negative. The results are bad....

Does that scanner support Negatives? or does it have a Transparency/Negative adaptor?

it cannot be done on a regular scanner. It takes specialize junk. Go here for how to (http://www.acdsystems.com/English/Community/ColumnsArticles/TechTips/tech-2001-10-17.htm).

Actually this scanner model does support negative and transparency scanning. There are built in film holders on the lid on the "Photo" model but if you don't have that model you'll need to buy the extra cost Transparency Unit.

I don't know which model you have or what the actual setup options look like but if you are scanning and getting bad results there is probably a setting somewhere to specify negative scanning. If it doesn't automatically change the resolution when using this setting you'll need to specify a very high resolution in order to get decent results.

I'm looking around for a transparency/film scanner and this one caught my eye too.

oops, google took me to the wrong scanner when I first looked up that model.

What software are you using to scan the negative?

The standard Epsom software that came with the printer. I see that there is a transparecny adaptor that is needed that attached to the top. Perhaps this will help. Tha nk you for your input...
