:wave:Greetings, I am writing for my 79 year old father. He has a preinstalled version of ME. It is a HP Pavilion I don't have the model number right now but I have read and read trying to offer some assistance. Maybe one of you can help! :)
I asked dad what exactly was the error message that he has been receiving. It is as follows: "Internet Explorer cannot download( the item) ie: i864 pkg pdf from USCIS.gov site is either unavailable or cannot be found Please try again later"
He has done a restore but to no good. The error message is still there. He said he has taken it clear back to 2002 and no luck. IE seems to be blocking certain web sites. I sent him a link to just a 'funny' swf file and wouldn't open that either. Anything you can tell me before I go to his house and "see what I can do!"
This is like the blind leading the blind so do need your help that I can print off and take with me.
I have XP on one machine and 98SE on another so ME is greek and seems like he has nothing but trouble........dial up to ISP; slow, sluggish, has to go into safemode to scan or defrag....
I'll hush now! thank U again.
Thank you in advance if you have any ideas!

WinMe is prblematic at its best and an outright nightmare pretty much any other time. It sounds like he's disabled downloads in IE. Do you know what version of IE he's running?

For IE6:
Go to Internet Options->Security Tab and click on custom level and then scroll down until you see download options and make sure they are enabled.

IE5.5 should be the same.

BTW, the site below may be very helpful in trying to walk him through over th phone. It's got interactive screenshots for just about every OS and Web browser out there.
