HELP, I'm a transcriber. I've been told there's no software that will allow me to transcribe CDs burned in "Audio". They must be burned in "data". Is this true? The CDs I receive to transcribe are all in "audio". My equipment (Express scribe) will not allow the footpedal to work on CDs in Audio. Is there anything I can do? Can anyone help?

Welcome :)
Are you saying that your software can transcribe WAV, MP3 or WMA files?
If so you can convert the Audio CD.
If you have a CD Burner then they usually have options to rip a CD.
or if you use WMP9 or 10 then it can rip to WMA.

I am computer illiterate. I cannot transcribe anything now because so far they've all been burned in "audio" not "data. I don't know how to convert them and I don't know if I have on my system what you mentioned. Will I damage the CD by doing what you said?

If you make a new CD in a different format (data) it will not affect your original CD. "Ripping" is copying files from the original CD to your hard drive then burning those "ripped" files from your hard drive to a CD in a format that is more compatible with your hardware.

To answer Degsy:
From Express Scribe Help:
Express Scribe can be used to play and transcribe ordinary wav or mp3 recordings and includes its own Dock feature to transfer recordings directly from portable recorders.

Botho fo these programs will covert your AudioCD to Sound Files on your PC
http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/
MP3 is popular because of it's low file size.
If you have Windows Media Player 9 or 10 then you can also "rip" AudioCDs using that.

No, it won't affect the CD.
Ripping is a term used to copy Audio tracks from a CD and Convert them to a file type that a computer can play.
