I have just started to help out on a peer to peer networking system. In one department, there are 5 PC's, 4 running win 2000 Pro and the 5th XP Home. There are three HP laserjet 1300 printers. Printer A is for reports from all 5 computers, printer B is for contracts from computers 1, 2, & 3, and Printer C is for contracts from computers 4 & 5. There are times that the computers close out the software we use and it must be rebooted. The company says it's not the software but a problem with the network.

We have unique static IP's on each computer and they can all talk to each other fine and most of the time everything works ok. It seems that when the sotware that is used logs off by itself the printouts then go wherever they want including sometimes page 1 to one printer and page two to another.

Thanks, in advance, for any help.

And they are telling you its not their problem? Is it this software that prints the documents? It seems very odd that one page can go to one printer and another can go to a second printer. It sounds like each page gets printed as a seperate job. Is that correct?

Are the printers using some of the PCs as print servers or are they network attached?

How are the printers on the network. Are they on their own print servers, or are they shared by the computers they are directly connected to. If shared, are the printers that are installed which are shared from other computers, also listed as shared on the computers they are not physically attached to? Do you have extra compies of the printers installed?
