I have a broadband cable connection and a DI-624(D link) router.Everything works just fine with the laptop(wireless connection) but on my desktop I get fragmented Internet connection. When I connect the desktop to the router through ethernet cable(LAN) ,thus thru the ethernet card,I have small disconnections(fractions of seconds) from the Internet from time to time and on the right side(near the clock) of the screen an icon appears(and disappears) with the warning<local network cable unplugged> or something like that, but my cables are just fine(I tried 2).There is definitely from the router but why???Any suggestions?Make me happy,guys-lol !

P.S.There is nothing wrong with the cables or the computer/router ports, trust me !!!
P.P.S> I see now that my internet connection drops from time to time(also for a fraction of a second) on my wireless connection too. ***???

There are a number of causes for this, unfortunately they are almost some form of hardware.

Check to make sure both ends of your cable are firmly connected. If you still get intermittant disconnects, try using different ports on your router. If you still experiance the problem, try replacing the cat5. If you still have the problem after this, the solutions aren't so fun.

Try looking up the newest firmware for your NIC (if its upgradable). If you want, post the model of your card and I'll see if there is a new version for you.

If you get this far and still have problems, you likely have a bad network card or a problem with the built in switch on the router.

When i had disconnects like this it turned out the box in the backyard where cable comes from was messed up because of rain and snow, had a technician replace something there :X

I had the same problem with the same router. My wife's PC was fine but mine was connected via Cat5 and it constantly dropped just for a few seconds. I tried all kinds of things. I even switched nic cards. I ended up taking the router back and exchanging it for a Linksys and have had no problems since. DLink is aware of the problem but they have no solution for it yet.

Hopw you have better luck than I did.
