Need help burning.

I am a noob and have absolutely no idea what I am doing. I have downloaded multiple songs that I wish to put onto a CD. However, I do not know if I am able to burn them to a CD. Windows Media Player is telling me I can burn the songs, but it does not detect a CD or DVD burner. Does that mean I have to purchase CD Burning software, or do I need to buy HARDWARE to be able to burn. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I have only a DVD-ROM drive, so I was wondering if it was possible to burn using blank CD'S or do I need DVD's.

If you have a DVD/CD 'drive' you can only play the disks. What you need is a DVD or CD capable of recording. [eg . if yours is;it should say something like CD R-RW or similar either on the hardware,in the documentation or in 'My Computer'.Hope this helps.:wave:
