i had simailar problems whe i tried to install windows 98 after using xp, i had to reformat everything because of a virus. because i was using an ntfs file system i had to create a partition which was fat32, because 98 doesnt support ntfs,

this worked and in no time had 98 installed BUT.........
i had done it wrong and now it was saying that i had 2 hdd's , one the orignaol ntfs, now called F: which hadnt been formatted attal, and then a new C: which was FAT32, there wasnt much prob with this ecept the amount of my 40gb hdd which had been assigned to each one, the fat32 partition only allocated 5gb, and the ntfs partition had 35gb, but becayse programmes automatically install to C: and dont give the option to install naywhere else, there for i cannot instal much attal cause ive only got 5gb on that drive,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

i reccomend u look into how to create a fat32 partition PROPERLY unlike me. good luk wiv that.................

now how i created the partition so u dont do the same.

i went to bootdisk.com and downloaded the 98 SE OEM bootdisk, then used that to create a bootdisk. i booted up from the floppy, and it runs loads of scripts but eventually ends on this prompt A:/ (i think), i typed FORMAT C: (not sure if u can do partiton without reformatting) but it said i needed a fat32 partition, so i at the next prompt i typed FDISK,
then there are various options about the partitoin i thnik i selected the first option from every list. i mean dont follow that exaclty or ull end up in my problem, but , looik into how to make the partition PROPERLY il try and find a link for u.

hope this helps

Use the FDISK utility to delete all existing FAT16 partitions and create a single drive C: using FAT32. Or if you want more partitions, just put in the size of the partition during the fdisk prompts.
Then format, then load windows 98.
You know, of course this wipes all data from the drive?
Good luck.

Ummm.....am I missing something important here, or are
you guys forgetting that Windows 98 comes with a
FAT16 to FAT32 converting utility????

Microsoft have a detailed instruction page that you can
print to use the utility.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/180134/EN-US/

Hope that is alot easier than mucking around with FDisk
and formating

Also - Backup any sensitive data before you do it, and
you dont need to wipe any data,......

Good thinking, Aurorus. Matter of fact, I did mine that way a long time ago but I had since forgotten. Age you know.:dizzy:
He'd have been alright though if a clean install was the intent.
Thanks.
