Lost Sound

Compaq desktop running Windows 98SE. Sound just quit working...no error messages. Device Manager shows no problems. Sound card/driver enabled.
However, do not have speaker icon in taskbar and cannot open volume control under Accessories.

Any ideas??:rotflmao:

BTW...did check speakers and connections first...all are A-OK.;)

What make and model is the soundcard in your computer ? Have you tried reinstalling the drivers ?

Sound card: ESS Allegro PCI Audio

Have not tried reinstalling drivers. This computer is not mine, but my daughter's. She lives in another state.
