Help!

I’m totally perplexed. I have a Gateway Pentium III 450. I think my kids downloaded something that total screwed up my PC. I have had so much trouble that I cleaned my C: drive. Now, while it does run faster, it still freezes in certain situations.

The main system freezes are when:

Setting my screen saver,

Running any media player (I mainly use MS)

As I said, I reformatted my C: drive (I do have a D: that is a separate drive)

I reloaded my OS & drivers,

I ran Spybot, Adware, ecceleration, McAfee virus, all show clean

ANY IDEAS?

Welcome to CTH!

Ah kids don't ya just love em....

Since you reformatted and loaded the operating system, assumming prior to the kids messing with it, it ran OK, then it is probably a Hardware Conflict. I would 1st suspect your VIDEO DRIVER.

1st try a repair: With the Windows 98 CD in, go to

START | RUN

Type in

sfc

Hit <enter>

Let it run through, if it finds any corrupt or missing files it will extract them from the Windows CD.

Once this is done, reboot and if the problem does not go away, then have you tryed Windows Update???

START | PROGRAMS | You should see Windows Update somewhere on the menu.

Well that didn't work! I reloaded the driver, I ran the SFC and it didn't find anything.

Any other ideas???
