networking 4 computers [the hard way]

We've got a dell dimension 4700 up stauirs that came today, i'm going to have a dimension 4600 down here. Those will be connected via ICS and wired ethernet. now upstairs, next to the 4700, we're gonna have our old presario. Is there a way we could network it in for data acquisition/processing only (internet wont be needed)? Same for this old presario and the 4600.

I'm kinda thinking 1394 port, but i'm not 100% sure that it would work considering the way the workgroup is set up. 2 of the computers have XP home (the 4600 and 4700), this presario has XP pro, and the presario upstairs has 98SE.

By far the simplest thing to do is to just buy another little 4 or 5 port hub and stick it in that room and then hook both computers up to it, yes you will be able to surf on both computers but it is still the simplest thing to do.
