Well I seem to be having some issues here now (uugghh)
My computer just messed up big time (Again).......My A drive went AWOL and took my sound card with it........ :(
I was browsing some sites and i got another 'EXPLORER HAS CAUSED AN ILLEGIAL OPERATION' message (It was SHELL32 related) and i had to re-boot...
I re-booted,but my SOUND CARD WAS DISABLED (ALMOST LIKE ITS UNINSTALLED,I OPEN SOUND RECORDER AND ALL THE OPTIONS ARE GRAYED OUT).......... I shut down, looked in my tower and made sure everything is OK in there, then i booted up again...This time i got "FLOPPY DISK FAIL (40)" and its gone from my menu's
Does this mean a board burned out in my computer?? Everything shows up ENABLED AND WORKING in device manager,i dont get it........I have NO A DRIVE NOW AND NO SOUND......... http://www.myfilestash.com/userfiles/thedude/confused.gif
Im hoping some1 no's the answers to this......
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Dude, just looked or actually touched something? It's so easy to loosen a cable or cock a board. I'd go back in (what's gonna happen this time? )and snug down all cables, connectors, boards, etc. It's sometimes a jungle in a case and the need to move things around to get a look-see is inevitable.
Try this first and then see how things are going.
Good luck.;)

I didnt touch any of the Jungled wiring,I noticed several were un-hooked though.......
It was DIRTY AS HELL in there,i took some compressed air and cleaned it off but it still doesnt work :(
Some1 suggested removing all 3 items in device manager then re-booting and maybe windows will re-install them correctly..........Trouble is,i dont have a 98 cd!!!!!
Oh well.........

Extra power supply plugs are common for use later. Most cables and wires should be used unless something was uninstalled. Wires for the case LED's may not be plugged into the mobo.
Good idea though. Remove floppy and sound card from device manager. If they need drivers when detected, they should be located in windows or windows/system or in the cabs folders. Just point the install new hardware to those locations when asked for a W98 CD.
You might try booting to dos and running scanreg/restore and choose a date of or before this happened. Just answer yes or ok after you choose and hit enter. Then reboot system. Worth a try. Saved me a million times.
Let us know.

Yup i no all about the registry :)
Nope, that doesnt help me in this case though :(
Some1 suggested it might be a problem on the main board...3 things are affected and not working
1) Sound card
2) 'A' drive
3) Dial up modem is not found (Even though i dont use it) Error files are being generated saying no modem is found on com1
I dunno,its a my$tery to me!!

It looks from your statements these items are integrated on the mobo.
Of course the flop controller is. But the modem and sound also going bonkers at the same time is curious. Any lightning storms recently in your area? Even a surge protector won't stop all spikes at times. Check you power supply voltages if possible.
Just thinking out loud.;)

Yes there was STRONG WINDS AND RAIN ALL OF SUNDAY....
Some1 said Maybe the the extreme LOW AIR PRESSURE may have triggered something....I really dont know...... (This is a RETROGRADE period also which doesnt help matters)
But ever since it happend,i havent gotton another "EXPLORER HAS CAUSED AN ILLEGIAL OPERATION"...Maybe if it happens again, things will work again, who no's!!
I wouldnt be surprised if whoever put this together used stuff that didnt really work right together and thats why there were so many EXPLORER message's.....Its kind interesting............
But now im stuck w/no sound,A drive,so...........What gets me is the fact that DEVICE MANAGER reports EVERYTHING IS WORKING OK.........(But i did notice every now and then that GAME PORT JOYSTICK keeps disabling saying theres an unknown error..then it re-enables.....)

boot to command prompt and type the magic command scanreg /restore
select the earlyest date and press enter
if that failes
rename you windows diretory in dos
reinstall windows and see if you can get it working
if you cant just delete the new directory and name the old one back

I have gone through all the thread. The illegal operation error generally occurs if the operating system files get corrupted. I recommend you to reinstall the operating system by using the CD, which will solve the issue.
thx and rgds,

I just checked my BOOTLOG and several things arent INITIALIZING on bootup for some reason......I have pasted all the things that FAILED and collected them for you guys to examine for me:
[001661B9] LoadFailed = ndis2sup.vxd (I do have this file but its not initing correctly @ bootup)
[001661F9] DEVICEINITFAILED = MTRR (Dunno what this is,MODEM i think)
[00166249] Dynamic load failed : [00166249] File not found
[001662AA] Dynamic load failed WLANIOC.vxd : [001662AA] File not found
[001662BB] DEVICEINITFAILED = CLM_DBS (Modem also??)
[0016630A] INITCOMPLETEFAILED = SIS530V (Monitor??)
[0016630D] INITCOMPLETEFAILED = SDVXD (Sound card??)
1) I think that WLAN file is for my ROUTER CONFIG,and if so,WHY AM I ABLE TO CONNECT IF THAT FILE IS NOT ON MY COMPUTER ANYMORE?????
2) WHERE WOULD I GET THESE NEEDED FILES?????
IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME,IT WOULD BE GGRREEAATTLLYY appreaciated!!!!!
Im gonna delete my bootlog file and start fresh on next bootup and see exactly if the same stuff isnt working..........

Yes i just ran my system file checker and i restored my ESS SOUND CARD files and i have audio back!!!!!!!!!
But its real choppy, especially with WINDOWS SOUNDS (Emptying recycle bin,etc......) I dunno if its exactly the right files as i changed them and i dunno if the 1's i restored are the ORIGINAL ESS FILES or the 1's from after i changed it (They were recovered from the system sysbckup file)
One restored was wdmaud.drv (Windows Device Mapper)
So im semi happy.......Still have some files to go,but i got 1/2 the problem resolved.........
