Confusing conversion of mp3's to MPEG's.

Sorry if i've put this in the wrong section, but i wasn't quite sure which category to fit this problem in. What's the problem? Well, somehow all of my mp3's have been converted to MPEG's - those already downloaded as well as ones i just downloaded. Why is this happening? I've downloaded them from a number of different sites, so that isnt the problem. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

When you say these files are being converted to mpegs do you mean the file extension (.mp3) is being changed to (.mpeg) or that the mp3s are being opened in a different media player program ?

What virus scanner do you have installed ?

or do you mean the description?
Some programs will have seperate descriptions for each file type, such as MPEG Layer 3 File or MP3 Audio or MPEG Video File

other programs will have a general description such as MPEG File. It's correct in as much that an MP3 is a MPEG, but it not very informative.

the file extension has been changed to .mpeg. And i have norton installed.
But I'm doing the online virus scan now, i will give you the results when it is done.
