Running WIN98SE. Have AVG virus program running, and ZoneAlarm (all up to date). Plenty of ram and disk space (usually running w/ more than 70% of resources available). Problem. I get on line via a SysLink wifi. I do some work, read my e-mail, and then do a bit of surfing. Often I find that my connection to the outside world is cut off. I have a good link qualilty (according to the SysLink prog), and my computer is sending out signals (according to the ZoneAlarm icon), but there is no incoming signal. At this point, a restart is required to reestablish a connection. The shut down is always messy.
Any ideas would be most appreciated. Thanks

What sort of connection do you have for internet "cabel, dsl"? How far away from the sorce are you and are you using the latest drivers and or firmware for your devices?

I have a dsl through the Verizon Phone co. I have been continiously foolingaround with this problem. I hakve been using a USB vertical mouse (much easier on the wrist). Finally, I disconnected that and plugged in a standard MS mouse. Seems that fixed the problem. I guess this old computer does not like having too many USB devices on board.
Thanks for your response.

Odd that a mouse would cause this but if the dsl modem is usb then maybe because it is afterall windows98 hehe. If you still want to use that mouse maybe check into getting a small 4 port usb hub and see if that will work things out.

If you give the usb hub a try, go with a powered one that way you should affect the USB bus less. just my 2 cents...;)

The issue is most likely caused by low power output through the USB port. This can happen with any OS, it's more an issue with the motherboard. A powered USB hub should fix the problem.
