Red face not sure....

Ok, I have just read all the threads that somewhat pertain to my situation, but I am a little confused. The whole networking thing is very new to me and I hope Im not biting off ore than I can chew. Here's the scoop:
1.) I have a desktop(XPHome) connected to a Belkin Pre-N wireless router which in turn connects to the internet through my cable modem.
2.) I have a laptop(XPPro) with the Belkin Pre-N notebook card.
3.) The Internet sharing was seamlessy set up by the prepacked software included with the wireless router. Neither computer has a problem being connected to the internet at the same time or by itself.
4.) My Goal is to be able to share programs/files/printers between the two machines. I have tried like crazy to play with the network wizards but it seems they just want to do the same thing the prepacked software did. I am unable to see the other machine on the workgroup or shared files or folders.
Does anyone have the patience to help a novice?

EDIT: PS I am an administrator on both machines, yet the desktop XPHome says I dont have permission to share or access is denied.

As I have said in many threads, workgroups are based off of a protocal called NetBIOS that is horribly unreliable and depends on a broadcast protocal that is not often forwarded by current Wireless and Switch technologies.

I recomend you try to access the computers directly by hostname or ip address. This can be done by opening the run prompt (start -> run) and typing

\\hostname

or

\\ip address

with the correct information of course.

Thankyou. ran IPconfig for the "real" ip and chased it with the desktop. i could connect to the laptop, share folders, programs etc, (if I allowed sharing on the laptop), But could not connect to the desktop from the laptop in the same fashion.
