Hello. I just got a brand new notebook from dell. The Inspiron 9300 if that matters. But anyways, I want to be able to share every file between my two computers. I've tried to do what other posts said but with no luck. On my desktop, I have already did the 'share' thing to both hard drives and the 'share' on my notebook hard drive.

I have the same workgroup name for both 'MSHOME'. When I go to 'view workgroup computers' on my desktop, I can see both computer names. However, on my notebook, I can't even view the workgoup computers. It says that I don't have permission and the list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.

Back to my desktop for a moment, when I click on my notebook's name, it says 'The network path was not found'. I don't understand! The router firewall isn't on nor is the windows firewall. Just Norton on my notebook and McAfee on my desktop.

XP home on desktop. XP professional on notebook.

Ask if any additonal information is needed.

very tired...:bored:

I got it running after some heavy research. HOWEVER, I cannot view my docs, program files, or windows from my notebook. And everything is in my documents in my desktop!!!!

Any solutions?

You have to share things separately, but you also have to make sure that the remote user has file system permissions.

It is possible for you to strip permissions from everthing and allow 'everyone' to have access... but that would be really bad. Make sure that you have created the same user account with the same password on both comuters and that you use this user to communicate between the computers.

Just another quick question. When my notebook searches for available networks, I go in the "details" for my network and it says channel 6. It works fine. But when I try to connect to another network, it won't connect. That network is on channel 11. How do I change the channel on my notebook? Or does the notebook automatically change to that channel when it tries to connect?

Thanks

You wireless card auto negociates the cannel with other settings. If you can't connect to the other network, there is probably security or MAC filtering enabled
